Changing Auto Kickdown position - Now Changed! *EDIT* - Pdf file on it Thu, 19 February 2004 13:25 Go to previous message
Is it possible to change the kickdown point on a 4AFE EFI Corolla Automatic easily. Going up a hill requires around 3/4 throttle before the auto will kick down from say 3rd to 2nd. Most mazda autos I've driven are much more willing to kick back a gear. It's just annoying because you've lost all this speed before the auto has kicked down, or once its kicked down and getting up to speed again you back off slightly and it shifts up again losing all your power (Bad on long hill). What I've been reading suggests on carby cars a kickdown switch is connected to the accelerator pedal?? Would this be likely on this EFI corolla also and hence could adjust slightly? I noticed many of these model corollas have reluctance to shift back a gear.

Sorry...did a search and read a few books and manuals but can't find much except that some cars have a kickdown valve.

Has anyone played around with where there auto shifts back a gear in relation to throttle opening?
I realise it also has to do with RPM and intake manifold vacuum pressure.
