I guess that ABV is the Air bypass valve for the S/C.
Why do you want to turn it off? What conditions?

How much grunt you planning on making If you've got big plans, do what I'm doing and get the biggest custom jobbie that can be jammed in there made. If you're planning on sticking to a stocky GZE blower for now, then an MA70 supra one will be more than happy to do the job. As for 'turning off' the bypass valve, it's not gonna give you any real gain anywhere - and just make it hard for the engine to get any air at idle/cruise. Also don't do as I've seen done several times and try to fit a big arse blow off valve, and then cry when it doesn't work!

What about an air to water intercooler, like that of a Group A Rally Celica? Aren't they more efficient at cooling the air? and less turbo lag, as you can put it on top of the engine, and with a smaller length to the inlet?

i want to put in the gze and then add the nevo 175 mm(i think thats it) pulley kit and a bigger (3 inch) exhaust. i want to plumb up a reasonably sized front mount cooler. the reason i ask about the ABV is that i've heard it restricts the amount of boost you can run to 8psi i think and thus would negate the benefits of the pulley kit. also now i feel like a big stupid wank cos i was planning on putting in a Blow off valve of some description. help me o wize dispensers of gze information

superchargers dont need a BOV as the spin from the crank as you know, not by exhaust gases spining the turbine, so when you back off the throttle air isnt being forced against the closed butterfly causeing the impeller to slow down, cause it slows down on its own account anyway. this is how i see it correct me if im wrong.

May I correct you
A crank driven blower DOES need a blow off valve if the throttle(s) are after the blower! Much more so than a turbo - as the compressor is driven by the huge mechanical force of the engine/weight of the car, when the throttle is shut against outlet of the blower, then a gawdawful amount of pressure will build up, and something has to go - be it the throttle bending, the hoses blowing off, whatever. However, if the throttle is BEFORE the blower (as it is on a GZE) then the air supply to the blower is cut off as soon as you take your foot off, therefore no air can be blown off to make funny noises no matter how hard you try. I remember trying to explain this to a coupla guys who had fitted this hideously expensive (and very shiny, and colourful...) blow off valve to some other guys AE92 with a 4AGZE, and they kept yelling at each other about why it wouldn't work. Some people just can't be told though, no matter HOW you explain something

and you're not a stupid wank until you go out and buy it, fit it, find out it doesn't work, then refuse to accept explanation as to why this is so. Fortunately, you asked, and hopefully saved yourself some $..

also what about the air bypass valve (ABV from before) should i shut this off or not, is the boost limiting effect real or not? if i should shut it off what is the best way to go about it?

All Blitz products come with a Stupid Riceboy Tax, hence the laughable pricetags. A huge custom intercooler shouldn't cost much more than a grand, brand new. Custom inlet piping may add a bit to that, but there's no way you'd pay $4k for a frigging intercooler.

BOUNTY
I agree that these imported goodies are just TOO expensive (some responsibility must be due to import duties etc). I was quoted $1500-1800 for a custom intercooler + piping. Over the net though, check out
http://www.perfectrun.com.au/
they seem the cheapest - but it may be a little dodgy buying things over the net. Certainly heaps of things to drool over though.

Yeah, I'm getting a custom one now, so its for sale. Make an offer! JMS charge about 450 for these last time I looked, I don't expect you to shell out quite that much for it though, so what do you reckons fair?

It's a JZA71 cooler, it looks like the classic 'supra core', except its the one with an outlet on each side, rather than both on one side. It was in my ae86, but I didn't change any of the stock mounting boltholes to put it in my car.
