Hi,

sorry to PM u, but i've been reading through the forums etc, and i understand that you imported a Trueno and would like some advice on how to go about doing it. I was thinking of importing through prestigemotorsport or jspec, who did u import through?

its allright buddy, i get lots of these kinda questions, as you probably suspect, but your the first knowledgeable person to ask, so ill reply Wink

i imported my car through craig and gareth @ j-spec, it was a pretty painless experience apart form the wait to FIND a good car, search through many cars, probably 80 or so cars in total, but was worth the wait. they cost $1000 flat fee. and were quite good

Also just wondering about ur 86 and what condition u got it in, as in Kms on the clock, how well it ran when it landed etc. I'm really curious to know if it had any scratches or something not working that was not listed on the auction sheet. Or any major issues u've had with the car.

my car was in awsome condition, no rust whatsoever, 153000 kms, ran very well, started first time, had a worn clutch (which was noted on my mechanics inspection which i paid a guy in japan to do, it cost me roughly $230aud for him to go and do a full checkup)

with my car it was found in a dealer yard outside of tokyo by the jspec guy in japan, for 435000 free on board (FOB).
the issues ive had so far are,

battery dying (wouldnt start sometimes) - replaced $50
clutch worn - replaced with kit from adelaide clutches - $260
fuel filter blocked - replaced with new unit from repco $50
muffler - too loud - new muffler - $120

the car has lots of suspension work including coilovers with a stock engine, nice solid car to drve with great handling and good power, had a rollcage which i removed for rego.

Also i know it says about 8 to 12 weeks from when you pay for the car till u can get it on the road is this correct? How much running around is involved as in, taking it to get compliance can u drive the car from the dock to the garage where the compliance work is done, and from the garage to get the car rego'd? Or does the car need to be towed or transported there?

around 8 weeks, mine was a week longer as the car had to wait for a ship to arrive, also i had to pick up my car from a bond customs yard because my approval want ready in time when it finally arrived, usually this would result in the car ebing shipped back, but i had it stored at a bond yard (illegal) for 16 a day until it arrived (in a week later)
i used roll on roll off shipping (RORO) for around 1800 bucks (this is done depending on weight)

a massive amount of runaround is required. after paying for the car i had to:

organise the customs documentation and the approval for import (this is done when purchasing to save time, using a fax form from the DOTARS website , involves a $50 application fee and the invoice in JAPANESE yen)
after the approval i had a lady at seaways shipping called natalie as my "customs broker" (this cost $170 for her service) she organised the customs check, GST and customs fees (around $3000) and the bond storage when everything fucked up.. thanks god. it was an extra fuckaround because of my initial fuckup with the late lodging of the import application and it not being completed in time of the cars arrival, but my fault i do admit.

after i received my approval in the mail, i went to her office, paid her and the customs fees and picked up the DELIVERY ORDER (D.O) for my car. i took CASH to the customs yard to pay for the storage and pick up the car (around $120 bucks which the cunt pocketed.. i saw him)

now, this was the BEST part of the whole 6 month process, THERE sitting in the holding yard, was MY car, MINE, i was so fucking happy i couldnt stop smiling, and she started first time wooot!

i picked my car up from the customs bond yard i driove it down the road, at first the guy wasnt gunna let me drive home but i said its my choice to break the law if i wish (i didnt have time to get a flatbed truck, nor the money... sue me), so he let me go, i then stopped down the street a little and put plates on the car from my friends old beetle (illegal) and drove it home (illegal) and then to the complaiance shop in kirrawee (illegal) called kirrawee autosport engineering to get it complianced and blue slipped (1500 including a new muffler for $120 as the old one was WAY too loud)

then after picking that up a week and a half later, i drove to NRMA and got 3rd party (greenslip $580) and the to RTA to register it (it is legal to drive with a blue slip to get car rego'd) ALWAYS have ALL information when going to the above places, like the lot invoice papers, delivery order, your birth certificate, the LOT, and bring CASH to these places as eftpos usually fucks up at the last minute (as it did with me, and i had to come back the next day.....) RTA does a check on the VIN to make sure its not a rebirthed car or anything dodgy, and they give you yellow plates (around $600 bucks for rego and plates for 1 year)
