Help Needed - Welding

Hey all
So we have to weld the new radiator support to the AE92 SX Hatch that me and my mate are repairing. BUT
All or our welding options have fallen through, so I was thinking of buying a welder and doing it myself. (please don't laugh - isn't this the basic premise of Toymods anyway  )
SO what I have to weld is:
a) Radiator Support = spot welds
b) Extractor downpipe = seam weld (may outsource this, as these are harder)
Do you guys think this is a reasonable idea? I have been wanting to learn to weld for a while, and I will practice on some scrap metal blah blah. I am not an idiot either and know the safety precautions involved.
Unless someone wants to come around and do it. It is like a 1/2 hour job max, but I have no options anymore...
