ma70 engine warning light! Grrr

I was on my way home from dubbo today, and overtaking someone - probbaly getting up to about 140-150km, and as i passed and slowed down, my engine light came on. I pulled over and turned the car off. Waited a few seconds and then i started it...light was off and i started driving again.
Probably about 1/2 hr later i did the same at about 130km, and the light came on again...so i repeated the same process.
And once again going up a rise, doing about 110, the light came on.
I had no more re-occurances of it during the rest of the day, but i also didnt push the car.
it was in "normal" mode in the auto, and is also using about 8L / 100km of fuel on the highway. I have suspicions the O2 sensor is gone, but if somsone can go further please help!
