My friends ae92 corolla has shuddery brakes. I put new front pads. Inspected the discs but they didn't look like they needed machining. If you hit the brakes on the flat they usually don't shudder, but if you're going down a hill or even up and hit the brakes you can feel the shudder quite bad (through pedal, no shudder through steering wheel). Is this a common problem, the discs look fine but maybe slightly too shiny (maybe should have hit with the emery) . It has solid front discs that are only $54 each on this website. Is it worth getting them machined or just buy new ones? The rears appear ok (but then again so did the fronts) .
Is there any other cause of brake shudder or is it most likely to be the front rotors.
I put new front rotors on my ae82 and it fixed the shudder, but this shudder is more intermitent and on my ae82 rotors you could visibly see the unevenness of the rotor, turned out they would be below minimum thickness if they were machined.
