JZA70 1JZ Problems Wed, 21 April 2004 14:49 Go to previous message
Having a problem with my surpa at the moment. Its a 1JZ-GTE.

At present, it has a weird idle where it will be fine and then drop about 100 - 200 revs and then get back up to where it normally is. And then it may drop again quickly after and then rise back to normal.

Whilst driving it tonight, I noticed that it was driving really rough, in that power wasnt constant, it was stuttering through the rev range. Then, on accelartion, the car was making full boost yet it felt like it was being retarded for some reason ? Also during this period, If you hit the accelarator, there would be a delay before anything was felt.

Later on, I was in first, accelrated hard, changed in to second let the clutch out, pushed down the accelrator only to be greated with nothing at all... it didnt rev at all. It felt like an intercooler pipe had blown off after this but over the next km of limping around, it righted itself and began to drive normally again ?

What could be causing this ? Perhaps low fuel pressure / Dirty injectors ? Which would indicate an intermittant fuel pump ... This would explain why it has gradually gotten worse and worse - i.e. the fuel pump is degrading. Alternatively could it be a bung spark plug ? Or Perhaps even a bad sensor ? If it were the spark plug or map/crank angle sensors, if one failed, would imply that it would've just suddenly happen instead of gradually getting worse and worse.

What do you guys think could be causing this ? I have to fix it!
