3T-GTEU bigend bearing source/problem Wed, 21 April 2004 23:50 Go to previous message
Hi People,
Im up s*it creek a bit with the rebuild of my 3tgteu, the problem being with the big end bearings. I have 10 thou over ACL bearings (p/n 4b1686) for the 3t as supplied, but unfortuantly the oil holes in the bearing shells do not line up with the squirter hole in the conrod.
Refer pics on rods in this post

It is out by about 10mm... I have been in contact with ACL, and they dont list a oversize bearing for the 3tgteu, or any bearing for that matter. I have also been in contact with local parts, Miles toyota, and well frankly they werent very helpfull, but they came to the conclusion that toyota dont make an oversize bearing for the 3t-gteu, which i found hard to believe. So Ive also emailed another dealership to see what they say

Otherwise after talking to some engine rebuilders it looks like redrilling the shells is the answer, but in a motor that Ive sunk alot of dosh into (forged Ross pistons, shot peened this and that etc) just doesent seem right

So thats my story, Id love to hear what other people have done/sourced to solve this wee problem
Anyway help would be very much appreciated

Regards
Logan Stephens
