as the title boys , what the hell is the difference apart from the double price tag on the synthetic
i own a 1g-gte soarerand was told to only use synthetic oil by a few people , and others have said its cool to use normal oil
what the hell is the best for the turbo motor , specially the 1g-gte
have tried mobil 1 supersyn 5w-50
and castrol super-r or something like that 10w-60
both these oils makes the car sound harsh while in cold start and tappet noise when warm , castrol is worse
have i toattly got the wrong oil for my car
pls help fellas

Try something a little bit thicker (say 15W50).
AFAIK the main reasons to use synthetic is because you can get thinner oil in synthetic and also "most" synthetics are less abraisive than mineral oil.
Personally I use Penrite HPR15 which is a semi synthetic.
I highly recommend the Penrite range!
The main thing to remember with oil is to change it frequently (every 5,000kms).

The 1G-GTE was never designed to need fully synthetic oil so running it is false economy. A semi-syn or full mineral based oil is fine for this motor and its twin turbo's.
Castrol GTX 2 is more than adequate.

I use mineral oil in mine and haven't had any probs.
WearCheck has some helpful information about the different types of oils. Worth a read.

I've just had a flick through the site Gold28 put up. Aside from cost, and providing you pick the right ratings, is there any advantage to using a mineral oil?
