I was thinking I buying an 18RGEU from a person on this forum, there name will be with held for the time being (to avoid an interaction between s**t and the fan), so lets call them personX, but I just wanted some other peoples opinons about it.
It's got full efi gear, 2.25" zorst, gearbox, and the head gasket has just been changed, but I'm told hasn't been run since (thats an important bit) and the price was pretty good too. I was assured that the engine is fine but have only seen a few dodgy pics. The person is now looking for new engine (I won't say what to help protect there indentity, but it's alot newer then an 18RGEU)
Sounds like a nice engine and a good deal, however, after some detective work I discovered the following

1.
18rgeu complete motor includes starter, dizzy, manifold, injectors, ecu, loom, etc. Water found mixed in with oil when sump plug was undone....

Sounds like a head gasket or a cracked head, right?

Thought maybe i could pay it off like $50 a week as im a bit broke. Just got a 76 celica to put it into. By the way is your celica a ta23 or ra23.Let me know. Does the engine still have a dizzy in it.

Was cleaning up the garage at mums place and found my old 18RG (*sigh*) , a friend bought the bottom end already, but the head is still for sale. Its complete (cast 88250), with camshafts, polished ports, valves & seats were recut about 2,000 kays before i pulled the engine out, no inlet or exhaust manifold. Looking for $200ono .. Was perfect when it was in the car, pulled the engine out for a 3TGTE conversion.
In Melbourne

Do other people think that I would be correct in the assumption that the person in question has brought the engine in the hope that it's only a head gasket, but after replacing it they found it was a cracked head, then they have decided to sell it to recoupe (is that the same as rebuilding a coupe? hehe) the cost of the engine, or am I just thinking about this way too much?
It's would be way too much money for the engine especially if it had a cracked head, and I don't have alot to spend being a poor uni student. Anyones opinions would be appreciated.
