Timing on 4AGE Fri, 07 May 2004 20:35 Go to previous message
I've got a small port 4AGE and am trying to set the timing on it. I've been running it on 15 deg for a few days now (just got car on the road), it's running pretty good.

Anyway, had a look at the 4AGE book, and it says to short out terminals T and E1 in the diagnostic box, set timing to 10 deg, unshort and it should go up to 16 deg or more...

I shorted T and E1, check engine light flashes indicating computer is set to Test, set timing to 10 deg, unshort and it's still about 10 deg... Maybe a tad higher, but really not by much at all.

Spoke to AK, he says the timing will usually rise to like 12 deg or something, not by much really.

So umm... What's the go with this? I would be assuming that if the book says that the timing should be 16 deg or more when running in normal mode, then I should set the timing to 16 deg and just forget about what it is with the terminals shorted? Or do I just leave it at 10 deg and have it sitting at 10-12 deg when normal?
