 Info on changing headlights for 1980 Corona!!

Hi, i wanna know is it possible to change the headlights for my 1980 Corona??....i've asked a mechanic b4 and he said i just cant change the light blubs, i need to change the whole set of headlights and that would cost around $300!!!....is there any other ways, that can make my headlights abit brighter??....my headlights are very dim and is not very bright...any help will be apperciate!!!
