1982 RA60 Celica XT
Rebuilt 21R-C
Stage 1 TRD copy camshaft
all else is basically stock, apart from the missing emissions gear and air filter Razz

I've had it since September 2002. My first car and still my daily driver. Had so many fun times with it. A couple of months after I got it, I was so bored I stripped the whole motor down so I could learn how it all worked. A stupid idea that was because I had no money and had to buy a full gasket kit Razz. Then once I got my P's (July 17th 2003)... a few months later it developed a water leak, i just thought little of it and kept filling up the radiator ever time i got fuel. A bad idea that was due to flying down teh hwy @ 150kph, I saw a few sparks fly from under the bonnet, looked down and the coolant temp was off the scale. I managed to drive back to my dad's work to find the car didnt want to start. I had warped the camshaft, oddly enough the head was straight.

A few more months went by, car appeared fine, minor oil leak here and there, made up sidedraft carby intake manifold in an attempt to fit 40mm dcoe webers. The car started an ran, but due to my bad welding, the flange had warped and was leaking water. Also didnt have a decent throttle cable setup, so driving it wasnt an option.

Then one day, I was cruising around and a mild knocking noise started to develop after about 3000rpm. I asked my dad about it and he said it wasnt going to get any worse. Well I thought he meant it wouldnt get any more damaged, but he meant it was fucked now, and anything more wasnt going to change the fact it was fucked.

So yeah, kept driving it, one day down the freeway, the knock starts getting louder and louder.... keep driving. Starting to feel a loss in power.... keep driving. Car is undoubtedly louder than a steam train. Pull off to the side. Dribble my way to a mates place and call my dad to get the trailer.

Needless to say. Yes it was fucked. I got then engine onto a stand, pulled the sump off and BAM. The oil wasnt oil. It was a lovely silver paste. One of the main bearings had shat itself and had started to discintergrate*. By the time I got to look at it, it was non existant. My oil contained the bearing shell.

Pulled it all apart, got it all honed/overbored/etc. Spent 10 hours straight trying to put it all together to go to a mates place. But yeah, got cut short coz was so knackered.

After all the fuss and loss of licence for a month (Was driving hirogen's sprinter for a while, saw a new xr6 turbo and felt i must show how awesome this sprinter was. Unfortunately it happened to be an undercover cop car. I was fined $265, 4 points, and 1 months loss of licence. So yeah, good time to work on car ironically.

Car is running great nowadays, I'm nearing the completion of project convert2efi. Hopefully soon I shall have some extractors and a hotter cam Smile

Pictures will be posted up as soon as I get home from work.
