egr valve + intro

Hey everyone
im sort of a newbie here,but i guess ive been more of a reader than a poster of toymods. Well anyway i used to won a ae82 twincam, until i got hit from behind at 110 from a XA GT falcon (i think so anyway?) and write off the car on Christmas eve of last year. Still inspired by toyota's  i went back and bought a Celica st 162 with a gen 1 3sge!
Now to the question, the 3sge contains a egr valve and reading around other forums im baffled on whether or not to block its recirculation into the intake. I am wondering if anyone has done this before and has it increaded performance, fuel economy, etc????????? any info is appreciated in advance
