Hi all,
I'm fearing a blown head gasket on my MA61, it's loosing coolant, there are bubbles in the radiator and it runs pretty rough, it's been like this for a while but it's gradually getting worse and it's time to do something about it ! I'm going to attempt (with help from a mate whose done this before) to do the head gasket myself. I'm just wondering if there is any procedure (such as the on-line TSRM for the 5MGE) on the net or can anyone recommend any books that cover this ? I've checked the local library and there are the Haynes manuals for the supra/cressida was going to use these ?
Also what else should I check/replace while I'm doing the head
gasket ? I'm doing the valve stem seals at the same time as I'm
blowing a bit of smoke when I pull away after idle. I think I've
read I might have to do the chain tensioner, any other things as well ?
I'm in Sydney, anyone know of a good place/recommended brand of head gaskets etc. to use. I was looking at engine parts australia and they quoted me $86 for a HG and $22/set for the VSS is this a reasonable price ? I guess I will need intake/exhaust gaskets etc. as well Is this what's included in a a Valve Regrind Set ?
Sorry for all the questions ! I'm new to the forums and haven't done too much work on cars in the past, but am learning quickly with the Supra
Thanks,
Matt.
