air conditioning compressor

hi all, im giving a mate a hand to do a few things on his hilux 4wd and one of the things on the list is to fit a air compressor. i was wondering if it would be posible to fit the air conditioning compressor to suit the car (the car does not curently have air con) and use it as a compressor? it would be used for pumping up tyres after sand driving and the like.
