For several weeks I've noticed a strange sound when accelerating under load in my 98 Camry wagon.
The mechanic says it is probably the front engine mount but when he loosened it right off the noise was the same and now he's not sure - they're over $400 so I need to be sure that it's the problem.
The noise is a vibration/ buzzing, a bit like the exhaust hitting the floor of the car, and at other times seems to be coming from the engine bay. It's getting worse.
If I force the transmission to kick down the sound is gone instantly, it's only under load - say at 80kms in overdrive and I accelerate, especially up a slope.
Once had the noise at 60kms - sounded like something very loose in the engine compartment (can't find anything)
Also sometimes can make the noise while parked, once hot, but not always.
Hope someone recognises this and can offer advise ?
