Coilover Setup Fri, 02 July 2004 10:35
Alright
Just trying to figure out how long my springs should be in the coilover setup.
I assume they shouldnt be mounted so as to create undue pressure upon the upper and lower mounts when no weight is upon them, because that would mean that at full extension there would be no movement.

Im figuring ill use 150mm springs and mount the collar a bit below the top of the strut. That way ill have around 5mm of travel above the spring and 120mm of travel below the uncompressed mounting point.
That way when the car is settled on the shocks there will be 200kg/8kgmm-1 = 25mm sag in the springs, and 95mm of travel below and 30mm above. (do note the car wont be able to travel the entire 95mm down, and will be stoppered by bumpstops after about 70mm to prevent spring bind.
Is that right? Or should there be more or less travel?

EDIT: Shock travel diagram here: http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v207/levintrue no/tokico_HTS_102.jpg
