I have found one that lists prices and they want $84 for 2 years. Does anyone know of anywere that is cheaper. Thanks

im paying 8 bucks a yeah i think well around there us so about 15 bucks a year aus
thats with no hosting just the yourname.com .net .com.au or wat ever
i look for it t/m

try planet domain do a search in google for it i believe it might be www.planetdomain.com think its $18 a year maybe plus you can search for available addresses there too

Tryed planet domain and it is roughly AU$18 per year for a .com but still about the AU$80 mark for a .com.au
I really want a .com.au because it is for a local business that i am making a webpage for. Is there really any advantage to having a .au other than people will realise that it is an australian page?

I was planning to either use a free webhost or an ISP one. I need a host that supports mysql, php and ssl and have found 2 free ones that support this. I take it that the domain basically links to the host? can i just use any host?

Can someone confirm how a domain name works for me, does the domain name basically link to any host i want it to or does it have to link to a specific host?

nah dude you just buy it from pretty much anywhere and point it to whatever host you get
some domain name sellers have wierd conditions, but 99.9999999% let you point it to whoever your host is

Just get a dot com from Avahost or similar.
<$100US/year and you get 5.5gb hosting, pop3, cgi, php, mysql, 90gb/mth transfer etc. etc.

You can host 5+ domains on one account, might be worthwhile you registering one and then just tagging the domains and sites you build for other people onto that account.
