ok, I promised someone I'd post this up (yeah ok, I just want to brag:))

I was on pennant hills road, coming from carlingford to paramatta. at the lights at the top of the hill, just before the speed camera, a 'rolla pulls up next to me. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I did a fairly quick start.
and he's still next to me.
so I give it some more, he realises I'm trying to pull in front, and gets well ahead of me. Once we negotiated the speed camera at 55, it was back on. foot to the floor all the way along pennant hills road. I trashed him thru the corners, as usual, and he caned me on the straights. Past james ruse high school, going down the steepish hill, I hit about 140, and he's almost side by side with me. this is when a tarago-type people mover decides to pull out of it's driveway, with nothing but a courtesy glance in my direction. If I were doing the speed limit, it would have been dicey. As I was doubling the speed limit, I knew I was in deep shit.
as soon as I saw him coming, I was on the brakes as hard as I could (with a little lock-up) and down a gear. I kept on the brakes until the last possible second, where I lightened up, and swerved as hard as I could into the other lane. Back came out, then went out the other side, till I got it under control. I missed that van by a foot. Literally.
Luckily the guy in the 'rolla had the foresight to pull back as well, so I had room to swerve in. Not your typical brainless street racer... he knew exactly how close I had come to writing off 2 or 3 cars.
so he pulled up beside me, gave me the thumbs up.. for the drag and the impressive avoiding of an accident. then he signalled my to pull over.
We turn off, and have a chat, and it turns out he's the captain of a racing team. He was impressed enough with me beating his 4a-gze 'rolla, and with near-miss, that he offered me a trial with the team (3 trials acutally). If I can do the same thing on the circuit, I'm in.
