Can a KE71 support a 20valve. i'd be interested to see one? would be a great little car.

Yes, you could fit one in. Prbly best to source an AE71 cross member, this should make the engine a bolt in affair (bar the dizzy and the firewall conflicting).

The main problem is the effort and cost of converting a FWD 20 valve to RWD. I believe that pretty much everything that applies to a 20valve AE86 should be quite relevant if you can find that info around...

smallport 16v works just as well, with heaps less stuffing around.
