freaken adjustable clutch rod, MAD fix Sun, 22 August 2004 12:34 Go to previous message
driving home from work today and literally 3kms from home im changing from 2nd to 3rd and all i feel is the clutch go from nice to empty Shocked

roll over to the side of the road and there i am thinking iv either busted the slave or master cylinders. pop open the bonnet and what do i see? the freaken adjustable clutch rod snapped in half. im like WTF!!! HOW???

anyway as i do iv got a mechanic shop in my boot, so i get the tools out to try and fix and what do you know? i got nothing to replace whats there. a million bolts and nuts and nothing fits Crying or Very Sad

anyway so im fiddling round with spanners and i got a 8/10mm open end which looked the part but no it was too long and couldnt get it to work. also was too big to fit in slave.

so i get NRMA to tow home as no one home to pick me up. when i get home obviously i need to fix it so i can get to work tomorrow. so here i am going through every bolt/rod/piece of metal i got and nothing would work.

then i remembered that i need something adjustable and strong and what do i see in front of me? the rear brake drum pad adjuster Laughing so i measure it up and its a bit long and doesnt fit in the slave cylinder WHY GOD WHY????????????. BUT thats where mister grinder came in, i cut the fork end off completely and rounded the end and walah engineering at its finest Laughing

put it in and was a bit short (was adjusted all the way in) so i make it longer get it perfect. but now i got the issue of it possibly rolling back in and coming out. so i go through my crap again and find the perfect bolt that screws on perfect and is the exact thickness required for the adjustment.

so here i am with my new adjustable clutch rod invention and wondering if it works. i take the car for a spin round the area and works like a treat. then i think well i need to try long distance and since i was taking my sis to the movies what a perfect op to test it.

well im home now typing this so you guys can imagine how it went Very Happy IM A VERY HAPPY CHAPPY NOW... now being twice as thick as the original adjusting rod i dont believe i should have a clutch problem for a while hopefully BUT further testing required before commercial release Laughing Laughing

PS will try and get pics mid week on my days off to show the fine engineering work
