Mr2 turbo issue Sun, 22 August 2004 09:20 Go to next message
Hi guys, im having a little trouble with my car (1992 mr2 turbo).

after around 5 to 10 minutes of harder driving, not totally thrashing it, but reving out to 5 or 6 grand my car loses heaps of power. I Know that the 3sgte's have automatic boost restrictors for when the car is too hot or cold, but the engine temp indicator is on about half way, so doesnt appear to be overheating.

ive checked all the hoses around the turbo and intercooler and none seem to have any holes in them. Im having a boost guage installed this week to try and give me a better idea as to whats going on, but until then, any suggestions? and does anyone know where the sensor for the boost restrictor is located?

thanks

does it feel like its boosting really well and then all of a sudden its like it hit a brick wall because there is lack of power????

if so this is the boost restriction that u have mentioned, if you car has a boost gauge or it is the orginal mr2 turbo u will have the electronic boost gauge in the middle top, if so look at that, and if its below the + which is 10psi then its only boosting to 8psi this is because of the saftey feature. I know that the temp seems fine but as soon as it hit a temp which the ecu will pick up (much like the thurmo fan knows when to kick in and your temp sender dosnt get higher or lower)
