Release the hounds.

Am I the only one who uses driving as relaxation therapy here? Some nights when I have trouble sleeping I find a gentle drive helps me to tune out. Anyway, I was having a nice, quiet drive the other night along the old pac high (sunday night I believe it was) at about 12:30am. I got to just past Pete's Ridge and realised I wasn't going to make it home without stopping for a pee.
So I pull over, scope out a nice tree and get out to drain the lizzard. First thing I notice when the headlights go out that is that it is BLACK. I mean pitch black. There was pretty heavy cloud cover around the moon, so I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face. I hadn't seen any cars all night, but just to be safe I staggered a good way into the scrub on the side of the road.
Now there's all the usual bush noises around me at night - little rustles in leaves and tree's moving. Nothing unusual there - But about halfway into it, I hear a very low pitched and VERY threatening growl. I'm not talking possum snarl noises or wombat growl. I'm talking deep, cranky dog growl... with just a hit of a snarl at the end of it. I don't think I have EVER zipped up, ran 10 metres in the dark and bailed into my car that fast in my entire life. There's just something about being caught with your junk out that makes you feal vulnerable.
Now in retrospect I can look back and laugh at what a girly-wuss I was, and I can see it was probably just a sleepy feral dog or an oversized wombat that I woke up by peeing on it's head. But at the time, there alone in the middle of nowhere, in the dark, it was one of the scariest things that has happened to me in a long time!
There is absolutely no point whatsoever to this story. Just thought I'd share it with you all.
