Too Rich

Ive converted my ae82 from a 88kw engine to the later ae92 100kw 4age.My car runs excessively rich,to the point that black waterly based liquid will run out the exhaust after only a few seconds from being started. If you apply any throttle it sprays all over the ground. When driven it gets sucked back up onto the rear hatch and rear window. It's very unsightly. Also there is hesitation when driving and sometimes so bad that it feels like the car is being driven with the handbrake on (even at 5000-6000rpm).What could or can i do to fix this ongoing problem? Should i try and get a fuel only type management computer?
Cheers Adrian

Adrian, how is the condition of the 100kw motor you just put in.I would suggest you do a compression test and check the timing of your cam gears making sure they are to spec.Incorrect timing of your exhaust cam will cause all the symptoms that you mentioned.First I would check all electrical first (plugs, leads, distributor etc).Hope you find out what the problem is....

Adrian Don't know the engine specifically but some similar experiences may apply. Firstly, some experienced diagnosis could reveal a fault somewhere - someone here may be able to assist with your particular engine. During open loop operation you can fit something like a S-AFC and lean out the fuel along the rev range. A dyno tune will identify what points need modification and by what degree. During closed loop operation modifying the O2 sensor output should alter idle and low end rev range mixtures. Good luck

Might want to check the oxygen sensor too.
If it's not working, it'll run rich.

Thanks for the responses guys.I've already given the engine new plugs and leads. How do you know if the oxygen sensor is stuffed.I have an autometer a/f gauge fitted and it doesn't seem to work properly until the car is warmed up a little,so i guess the oxygen sensor is working since the gauge gets its feed from the sensors ecu wire.If i get a engine tune-up done at say ultratune,it would probably be a waste, right? Where would i take my car to get the cam and exhaust timing checked and/or adjusted? I live out near windsor/richmond NSW

are you sure youre running rich?
when i first start my car up, if i let it idle then it will spray out a lot of black crap out the exhaust.
my theory on this is that when engines run, h2o is produced as a byproduct. usually this will just turn to steam as the engine is usually hot. now, theres also carbon which will be in the exhaust from the running of the engine. combine these two together, water mixes with the carbon and gets sprayed out
however its probably not supposed to be like this. but i just move my car and let it idle on the road instead of spraying black shit on my nice white pavers

I tend to agree with you kevz0r, I notice if I leave my car idling and then give it a quick pump it sprays a nice lump of black crud on the driveway... but when I drive around a bit and stop and give it a pump, nothing comes out at all...

I agree about the idle issue, but it's the driving side that i can't figure out.I could have a perfectly clean car, then go around the block in my car and then the whole back of the hatch (even the glass) is covered in black. And the hesitation must be from overfueling, for when i accelerate (steady or hard) the gauge goes right around to rich, almost of the scale. My car is also a map sensored version not afm as well.So it's pretty much impossible to adjust myself.I'm just enquuiring as to whether other people have this trouble with their corollas and what you can do about it.Hence this is why i'm asking whether a fuel management system would help or eliminate the problem.
