my 3tg has been running on hella bad lately
it has 10:1 comp, even with optimax it runs on when i turn it off
can anything else be causeing this?
its not carbon in the chambers, they are spotless
surely i dont need optimax+ octane boost with only 10:1
can cams being out of timing cause this?
or the engine still being tight?

I would say it's an ignition timing issue, check your static timing!

my sister's 2a-c was running after u turn it off. the problem was that the spark plugs has just burnt away making a gap u could drive a bus through Laughing . those spark plugs had been in for a year at least thou. also the timing was out a little too. try replacing the plugs.

it's not the cam/s.
octane and/or hot spot.

My car runs on a bit now, ever since i swapped to a carb without an idle fuel cut solenoid.

My guess is your problem could be hot spots in the combustion chamber, carbon build up??

Hope you find a solution Smile

Cheers,
James

EDIT: Duuuhhhh, i gotta learn to read before I type Razz

i guess hot spot's are more than likely considering its still a pretty new engine with the rings bedding into the new bore

ok this porblems still here
but for anyone else with this problem, theres a easy way to get around it
when u pull up to turn the car off, handbrake on, put it in 2nd/3rd gear, ride the clutch a little so the idle pulls down a bit, turn the ignition off and when its meant to stop turning over, drop the clutch and it wont run on!!

so easy!
can't believe i didnt think of it earlier, works a charm!

does the carby have a fuel cut solinoid if it doesnt cut the fuel it can run on

also if the idle speed is to high it will run on.. wats it idle at should be about 750-850rpm

and check the idle speed mixture and adjust it cause a rich mixture might cause some problems...

and then just check all the normal things plug gap, point gap/dwell(if has points), base timing...

yeah im almost certain its just hot spots in the cylinders and nothing carbi related, cause when its still cold or hasnt been revved over 3000rpm for like 2 minutes it doesnt run on
so doing this clutch thing will stop it from doing in damage until the cylinders are worn in

"the cylinders are worn in"

no, it won't get any better, and has nothing to do with rings & cylinder finish.

High idle and no fuel-cut solenoid will cause overrun try dropping your idle speed down .

I get a bit of run-on with both my cars when they are hot. Its not realy a problem. The factory setup for a 2T-G with carburetters is a air solenoid that sits on the cam cover. When you turn the motor off, the solenoid valve opens to let fresh air into the intake manifold, with reduces the vacuum difference in the manifold so the carbs can't suply fuel.

On normal carby cars (my Sprinter), there is a solenoid switch in the car that cuts off fuel suply. If the O-ring is worn or missing on that valve, the car may run-on when hot, as my Sprinter does sometimes.

Also get new plugs. You want something like NGK BPR6Y or ND W20RU-11 or something in that range. I have ND Iridium SK20R11.
