hey ppl
i'm considering buying an aust-spec 86 and want 2 know that if at some later point if i wish 2 put a A4-ge and ECU from jap in (RWD ver not the FWD ver and not GZE)what addition modifications would have 2 b made to the 2 accomidate the change

eg. would the i need 2 modify the fuel tank and management system as well as piping due to the diffrences betwwen the JDM and AUST '86s (i read this in a post somewhere but it was 4 GZE but is it 4 GE 2). and i know i'll probably have 2 change the clutch as well b4 any1 points this out.

i've been lookin through the forum and and no-1 has given a definative answer to this question.

4a-c to 4age, not a4c or a4ge lol

as the 4ac is carby and not efi, you will need to do something about the fuel system if you go EFI, surge tank / high pressure efi pump spring to mind?, although I've never had to research it myself (do a search....).

you honestly can't have searched that hard if you can't find info Confused AE86's get talked about HEAPS on this (and other forums, google perhaps?)

Cheers
Wilbo

Yeh it would have definately been covered.

Main points are though exhaust, fuel system and clutch lines.

Yeh wilbo i did do a search b4 and there was 1 that talked about havin 2 switch from carbi 2 EFI but that was 4 a 4GZE not a 4GE

what type of exhaust upgrade would be need, would the path of the exhaust piping on the undercarriage of the car need to change or is it just an increase/decrease in size.

Your extractors will be on the opposite side to the 4AC. And yes, you will definately want to increase the size!

That's interesting. So you're saying the bellhousing pattern is different from the 4A-C to the 4A-GE?
I thought that the 'A' series bellhousing for the later T50 would fit all A series blocks. If not, which bellhousing should I be looking for?
I realise that there are a couple of variations of the T50 box but that in the Oz-Spec it should be the later box right?

it's not the bellhouseing itself..its the clutch slave cylider..it will be sitting about 4 inches away from your extractors..(not cool) just sheild it and you will be fine..run down to a wrecker and grab some exhasut shielding off a FWD celica 88-94 have shit loads on them..also TR 4cyl Magnas..as long as the bellhousing from the T-50 was off a 4AC..no dramas..

Bah.... you don't need to do anything except get a longer clutch line made up so it can run up and over your exhaust with a bit of distance from the pipe.

Ahh, ok. My TA22 with the 2T/T50 runs the slave on the right hand side. I was thinking that I'd leave it on the RHS when I put the 4A-GE in. I was fairly sure that there was a mounting point for it on the right hand side of the bellhousing but I'm worried now so I'll check it when I get home. It happens that I have a T50 with bellhousing that came off a 4A-GE but it has none of the clutch bits with it because the motor had an auto box installed behind it and the guy I bought it off couldn't find the bits.
I was assuming that the existing slave line in the TA22 would still fit the slave cylinder from the later box/bellhousing. Again, I'll have to get off my behind and find out...

Cheers all,
Dan

the stock bellhousing will bolt up
but the clutch line will be right next to exhaust
you could just get a jdm bellhousing and get lines made up

Just use the 4ac gearbox, yes the clutch line will be close to the exhaust, but all you'll need is some exhaust tape and it'll be fine, you could also make the exhaust dipfurther then normal to move it further away from the clutch but in the end its up too you.

Cheers

They are the same apart from the bellhousing, which puts the clutch slave on the opposite side
