Inspired by an autospeed article I thought i'd buy a 1/4 needle vavle ($30) to use with my dual stage bleed vavle to try and lower boost spike. It was spiking to 15psi then settling down to 10psi. (a bit too much for my liking)

Anyways I suppose you could say i set up the needle valve parallel to my bleed valve. I used a y-piece before and after my bleed vavle and connected the needle valve up so that some pressue by-passes the bleed vavle. Be careful tho because the needle valve i have restricts the pressure in one direction only so if your going to try this make sure its the right way (in other words blow through it and figure it out)
in adjusting it i set the bleed valve to the MAX BOOST and then i set the needle valve fully open. took it for a spin and found that it was running almost stock boost. now to rise the boost i closed the needle valve a turn at a time until i was happy with it. I suppose the needle valve sort of acts like an ajustable restrictor. Now my boost spikes about half a psi.
cost.. dual stage bleed vavle (2nd hand) $100
needle valve with adaptors to fit your typical 3/8 vacumm hose $37
this would be well below half the cost of an electronic boost control system.
the needle vavle is available from companies that specialise in pneumatics and hydraulics
