ae86 Oil pressure gauge q's Mon, 04 October 2004 05:57 Go to next message
Just the usual bigport 4ag into ae86 + the digi dash, but the signals are wrong for the oil pressure guage to work, they work fine on the analogue dash just not on the digi.

So my question is what sort of oil pressure gauge should i be looking for, whilst retaining the standard pressure reader(got no-idea whats its called) on the side of the bloke.

What sort of signal does the standard pressure run on?

The standard pressure reader (sorry forgot what its called) is already on the side of the bloke, just need a gauge to read it, any idea's or should i just go too a instrument specialists for advice.

Cheers

Steve

i'd say the transducer is giving out a signal that the digi dash cant interpret
you should be able to get it to work with some messing about
not sure where you'd start though
i'll have a talk to the sparkie at work, he's a bit of an electronic whiz

im pretty sure the standard oil pressure sender works with the digi dash. are you sure you put the correct wire on? i know it sounds stupid but some people mix up the oil sender wire with the water temp wire.

to test if it is the oil pressure sender at fault, earth out the wire and the oil pressure should read full on the dash. that way you know if the sender is stuffed, or you have the incorrect wire or are wiring fault.

Was installed by a well known auto electrician, i doubt he installed it wrong.

I forgot to mention that the digi dash has a oil light not a meter like the analogue, and the oil light works its just back to front, on when it should be off and off when it should be on, but i would like to get a analogue gauge blitz, hks, or whatever to read off the standard pressure sendor on the side of the block, not to keen on having a oil line running into the cabin.

What are my options.

Cheers

Steve

so the digi dash has a light not a gauge aye... well then i dont think an oil pressure sender will work with it, rather an oil switch (on/off, not varying signal).
pretty much all jap cars use the same fitting, take your pressure sender to auto one, auto pro etc and get an oil switch, less than $20.

why didnt the auto elec get it working correctly?
