1G clutch and flywheel choices... Mon, 11 October 2004 05:07
I have the chance to buy myself some nice little parts for my new engine, in the form of flywheel and clutch.

For the flywheel I can get a cheap-as standard flywheel, or I could go for something a little more special... something made from aluminium for about $350... would it be worth it though? I know it'd rev faster, and have trouble idling? But it apparently would also come on boost faster, or so i've been told.

As for the clutch itself, I can choose from a normal organic clutch, cushioned button or solid button. I'm very tempted to go with a cushioned button clutch since it'd be reasonably drivable yet still hold on nicely, unlike the solid which would be harsh, and the organic, which would be more prone to slip.

I am thinking aluminium flywheel with cushioned button clutch, extra heavy pressure plate for a little 1G-GTE... am I crazy? I'm probably looking at something near $700 for the lot, including new thrust bearing and hopefully flywheel bolts.

That, or I can just wait until my current clutch wears out (not long now) and just grab a new standard flywheel and organic clutch, and miss out on grabby button fun.
