1986 Twin Cam Corolla
Summary
- Car has 383122 km's
- Engine has around 90,000 since re-build
- All receipts right back to 1988
- Excellent Condition
- No dodgy modifications, very original.
Modifications
Whiteline progressive rate springs with matched KYB shocks - installed about 15,000 km's ago.
Whiteline 18mm rear sway bar.
Keyless entry, Immobilizer, Alarm installed.
Engine
The engine is still very strong in this car. The previous owner had and engine re-build and only put about 70,000 on the rebuilt engine when I bought it. Blows no smoke and still pulls hard. It uses a small amount of oil, which is normal I've heard for these cars. The original gearbox has just started to become noisy in high gears (3rd, 4th and 5th) and may need to be looked at in the future. Clutch still grabs right down at the bottom, no oil or fluid leaks.
- Always changed the oil and oil filter every 5,000 kilometers. Used Penrite HP10 and Toyota oil filters.
- Fuel injectors have just been fully serviced/flow tested recently.
- Cam belt changed about 15,000 km's ago at Toyota.
- New radiator, coolant, thermostat and thermoswitch. The car will never overheat
- New resonator and a standard muffler fitted, due to the orginal items becoming cactus and rattling.
Body
The paint on this car is still excellent from the day I bought it about 2 years ago. I had both bumpers re-sprayed earlier this year to bring them up as good as the rest of the car.
Interior
The interior is complete (no missing bits), is very clean, and in top condition. I've had everything inside steam cleaned cause I'm fussy. I also bought a replacement dash cluster due to the original cluster becoming old and noisy. Car also has a JVC MP3 player.
So what's wrong with it?
- Small amount of rust in the rear right wheel arch (only rust I've found)
- Idles slightly high when cold 1900-2000 rpm (when left overnight), but idles normal and smooth once the engine gets warmer.
- Gearbox may need to be looked at in another 10-20000 km's. Some whinning noise in high gears, but no crunching or anything between gear shifts though.
- The starter motor may need to be replaced. Its still spins but takes a few seconds for the engine to kick over (nothing major I'm just picky). It has been like this ever since I got the car 2 years ago. Still starts every time though.
- Small mark on the rear bumper, after some dickhead hit me in the car park and didn't leave a note. Although the mark is down towards the bottom and isn't very noticeable.
This is still a great little car, it goes better then most Twin Cam's I've driven, and is in overall excellent condition. I have always looked after this car, servicing it regularly and keeping it clean. The car has been very reliable for the time I've owned it, and I've really only spent money on maintaining it, I've never had something major go in it. The reason for selling the car is I've got a new job and have decided to buy a newer car.
Any person who is after an AE82 Twin Cam will appreciate this car and the condition its been kept in. I'll be sad to see it go, It's still great fun to drive and goes great.
