Gasoline smell inside Celica TA23 '77 2TB engine Mon, 25 October 2004 09:20 Go to previous message
Yesterday, I went for a 250 Km. trip on secondary roads in a Celica TA23 2TB.
At red lights (in front of which I stop ;-> ), I noticed a gasoline smell coming throught the ventilating system.

Going a bit into RPM's (still idling at light 2000 RPM) seemed to stop this problem.
Timing is set at 2 degrees advance (should be 10 or 12 factory I think) because it then starts better.

Also, when driving at constant speed, the car 'shocks' a bit, it is not very noticable, but you can feel it in the accelerator pedal. Using the choke at that moment seems to cure that chocking, but I guess then the mixture is too rich for a warm engine ?

I'm not at all a mechanic, but does somebody know whether above symtoms are related and knows what could be done to cure them, please ? Could it be the carburator that needs adjustments or something else, like the fuel filter, ???

Steven
