This happened on the weekend on my 1G-GZE in the RA23. I found the belt was loose so I tightened the bolt and just as I started to get the final torque onto it, it slipped and rounded the threads about 3 mm down from the bolt head.
So, I fitted a new higher tensile steel bolt, worked for 3 starts and now the problem has returned. Given that the alternator body/housing is aluminium, should I be using the same kind of bolt in that, or just go easy on the muscles ? I was using a socket with a short rachet, so was not generating uber torque on the thing in the first place.....
Please help this mechanical knuckle dragger....
Thanks,
Mitch.
