When it feels good, In normal driving and when the engine just starts to run out off power when flogging it

U can't set a speed to shift it always changes depending if you are on a hill etc.

The crown doesn't have one you just feel it. Cept with the 7M it pulls all the way to cut out. Cut tell you the number of times I've been racing someone and poped it off the limiter in 1st

I agree - in normal driving, you change early and keep the engine sounding relaxed. If you're pushing it, when the car starts losing power, it's time to shift

edit: My car doesn't have a tacho either, so I know wehre you're coming from Smile (although I've only bounced off the limiter once)

what they said! but changing at 50 would seem like redline to me, well it is for a 2T/3T

i dont think i ever look at the tacho or speedo when changing gears other than to make sure i aint speeding at the 24hr cameras Very Happy

it comes down to how the car fells when your driving it

nonono... dont wait till it *stops* making power, just till you start to lose power. power will increase along a concave-down bell curve sort of shape, and after that the engine will keep revving but you wont notice any power increase - that's time to change.

edited because I cannot form a coherent sentence

Try finding your manual for your car. It's usually in there for Toyota cars. Most people change at around 2,500 to 3,000rpm if they have an RPM tacho.
Otherwise just feel your engine. When it starts to grunt, that's when I change but it depends.
I'm supposed to go into 5th at 82km/h but if it's an 80 zone I stay in 4th because if I'm in 5th and lightly have my foot on the accelerator it'll easily get to 90 before I've even realised. If I have it in 4th it's easier to maintain 80 and slowing down is easier because I'm in a lower gear.

For an AE82 CS it's:

2nd - 20km/h
3rd - 40km/h
4th - 62km/h
5th - 80km/h

This is what's recommended by Toyota and it works a treat on fuel efficiency Very Happy
