I'm looking for a bit more power for my diesel hilux and am thinking supercharging may be an alternative to a turbo.
The big attraction to me is the lack of turbo lag as I mostly drive between 1 and 3 k rpm and having a turbo that only provides useable power for half of that rev range would be pretty silly.
This is how I would *like* it to work:
1. it should generally be on except when idling.
2. I would like a manual disengage for use in traffic etc, and just whenever it's not really needed.
3. I would also like an 'always on' option as well for extra torque idling along in some offroad situations. I understand though that the power needed to turn the SC may stall the motor?
Parts 2 & 3 above aren't really necessary, so I'd skip them if they were going to be too difficult.
So will the intake plumbing be more complicated if it is to be switched on only when needed?
I am not looking for a huge power increase, all I really want is to be able to cruise comfortably at 105 km! I was thinking of having it setup so that it makes about 6 psi boost at 3000 engine RPM. I'm not sure if this will give me usable boost at low RPM though.
How hard/expensive is it to get pulleys etc custom made?
Can someone give me some info or links on the SC12/14 used in non-standard installs?
