Got myself a KE20 the other day,. and looking at installing an 18RG
My question is, as the crossmember is an issue, can I modify an RA23 crossmember?, would it be easier than fabricating new mounts etc etc
I want an 18RG,.. please, I don't want to hear everyones thoughts on 4AGE's and 2TG's

RA23 in KE20?
have you looked at the size differences?
KE20 chassis rails have holes about 28" apart.
lemme see.. modifying celica cross-member, or modifying only the engine mounts?
18RG huh? each to their own.. the 18RG head probably weighs as much as a 4K block
there's a good reason toyota stopped with the T series...... even they are a bit front heavy for a K series corolla.
good luck grab your tape measure and start writing things down.
oh, and talk to an engineer before you even measure.. they will tell you what you should and shouldn't do.

I agree, but the classic 70's car has to be at least as big as an RA23. KE20's are tiny and the engine needs to be sized accoringly.

So the answer is no?,.....
Thanks
Not everyone can afford a FWD to RWD EFI conversion (4A)
And IMHO, an 18RG is a classic 70's engine, for a classic 70's car..

no the answer is measure it up yourself.. i've been measuring a KE70 to KE10 swap and it's close, but not easy at all.
celica to KE20 would not be easy either..
not all 4A's are FWD, and the conversion is easy.
EFI doesn't have to be expensive either
i agree with Norbie..
heft the weight that is an 18RG head.. they are heavy buggers..

Trust me,.. I would measure it if the RA23 I have wasn't about 100k's away
I was simply asking, as I was running through some ideas.

Look at a 2TG rather than the 18RG.
I think the biggest problem people are concerned about for you in this thread is the weight of an 18RG in a KE20.

Yeah,
I hear what everyone is saying, and I understand,..
I had a 2TG in my old TA,. I was not impressed
I also had an RA23 with an 18RG, and I love them,..
Just wanted to se how one would go in a lighter car,. thought it would be fun..
Oh well, I'll see if I can find a 4A RWD setup in my price range....

consider, compare bore and stroke of say a 2T-G with 3T bottom end (1.8ltr) to a 18R-G
2T/3T hybrid might give u what u want out of the 18R-G without being such a weight/space hassle
and shouldnt break your wallet either

what is it with people thinking that the FWD to RWD conversion on a 4A-GE is difficult!?!?!?
Piece of piss! Can someone explain what is so hard? I seem to have missed it when i did my FWD -> RWD 4age conversion
*dont mind my tone, it just annoys me how often people say this with all the info freely available on this website and forums!
Furthermore.. the EFI modifications are quite simple too Surge tank, lift pump and EFI HP pump.. easy
Realistically the simplest engine swap will be the 3T/2T-G hybrid like Josh said.

Yeah, I'd check out the 2TG option. They're a gutsy little engine (for their time) and you can do some mods to get more power out of it. Probably more power than a stock 18RG and the engine will be lighter and better suited to your car.
I remeber seeing an old Corolla Levine (early 70's model - not sure of Corolla model numbers) with a 2TG. Very nice looking car and I think it'd go like the clappers. I would of bought it, but I was torn between the TA22GT and RA25GT. I bought the RA25, but always thought that Levine looked sweet. I also wonder who bought the TA22GT and the Levine, and wonder if those cars are still running on the roads somewhere in NSW today.
