Usually they are not too far away from the ECU. But I don't know the MX83 so probably shouldn't comment.

Gidday
My guess would be behind the lh kick panel. Remember any EFI toyota should have one. Have a look in Corollas, camrys ect. I think that I paid $5 for the last one that I got

Found the one in the mx83, have craigzee over atm helping me with wiring
everythin seems to be wired correctly, just cranking no sign of a stutter or fire.
injectors are getting 12v, plenty of spark on the plugs and theres fuel on them.
if the ecu is dud would it only crank and not try to fire? if i hook the w pin up to get fault codes is there a code for no faults or would it just not flash at all?

if there are no faults, the engine light flashed continuously at about 0.5s intervals.
If there is an error, it will of course flash at intervals denoting codes.
ALL toyota circ opening relays i have seen are exactly the same, i grabbed about 5 last time i was in piccies. THey are usually attached to the ECU, just above the ECU, in either kick panel or somewhere else nearby.
On a 7MGE, i would check for IGt and IGf signals and wiring to make sure they are functional and connected.
Basically try to get your fault codes and work from there.
First clear the ECU memory by disconnecting battery for at least 30 seconds.
1: turn car to IGN. DO NOT START IT
2: short terminals TE1(aka T) and E1 on the diagnostic connector
3: check engine warning light to see that it is flashing, and thus ECU in diag mode.
4: take note of any codes that punch out.
Once you have fixed a fault be sure to clear ECU memory otherwise it will remember the fault and always spit the code.

thanks Karl, its the 1ggte im having problems starting, got no fault codes and the constant .5s interval flash.
just needed the 7mge circ open relay to hook the fuel pump up correctly
checked all ignition and power to ecu, even pushing in the air flow meter on ignition the fuel pump is turning on.
very weird

check cam timing and ignition timing.
if you have either or both of these out, then you have diminished chances of starting the motor.

Are you sure their is spark?
Are you sure it is fueled? (How did you check both)
Are the plugs fouled?
How much fuel flow do you have?
What colour are the spark plugs?

could be timing, i'll double check it but i would of thought it would start but cough and splutter if they were out.
brand new plugs, fuel is getting to the rail, there is a spark (placed spark on top of engine and cranked it seeing a spark on the plug

Actually, scrub that...
It can't be a timing problem, other wise it wouldn't run on the aerosol... It has to be fuel delivery
What fuel pressure are you running, maybe there isn't enough fuel moving to get enough through the injector into the chamber before it closes to run the engine

FYI: when engine is at top dead centre COMPRESSION, looking at the front of the engine the cam lobes for cylinder 1 should look something like this:
[]> <[]
i know that the 1ggte head is backwards (exh drivers side, intake pass side)... but if the cams rotate clockwise that's how they should be....
... if the cams rotate anti-clockwise... they should be like this:
<[] []>
correct me if wrong people!
