My poor car!

I was driving along the other day, strange noise, followed shortly by and engine light and the temp gague shooting up.
Pulling over quickly and then getting the NRMA guy out to have a look, turns out I had a blown head gasket (good bye coast trip that arvo). Little did I know the day was only going to get worse from here.
After the NRMA guy left I waited and hour for a tow truck, they sent out a lift truck, I wasn't very happy! They guy lifted my car and then worked out that it was 4wd, so he put the Jockey Wheels on the back. Then he looked at the front and decided he wanted to reposition on the tow arm, so he put the hand brake on and lowered onto a set of blocks. Of course when the back wheels aren't touching the ground, the hand brake doesn't do much. The car rolled off the blocks, landed on the tow arm, bent both fenders cracked the spoiler and removed a heap of paint!
He then decided that this was a job for the tilt tray (something I said at the start), left and called the tilt tray.
Tilt tray arrives (an hour later) and refuses to tow me anywhere but to his workshop. Tried to dodge liability for dropping the car because NRMA aren't supposed to tow modified vehicles.
I had some (harsh) words with his supervisor on the phone to no avail and handed the phone back to the driver. While the driver was on the phone rang NRMA and explained what had happened, she got her supervisor to speak to the tow truck supervisor (who was still on the phone to the driver) and suddenly they were going to tow it wherever I wanted, given that my preferred workshop was closed I took it home, but only after waiting 30 mins so the driver could go down to the servo and buy a disposable camera.

yea ive heard of cases that tow truckies only like to take it to a certian workshop because they get commision from a certian workshop for the more cars they bring it
its a dodgy under the table thing for extra money.
if they dont cover the costs, kick up a big stink at the NRMA and then if no prevail there, department of fair trading is always good aswell

They are trying to avoid picking up the cost, but I rang my insurer (free plug) shannons. They said:
Get a quote from my preferred repairer, run it past shannons, get the work done, pay no excess, and they will chase the tow truck company for damages.
They have been most excellent, would reccomend dealing with them in a second!

1gt48u - I was tempted to hit the guy who was trying to tell me they weren't liable cos the car is modified...
I spent a little time looking for the tow truck driver in GTA3 S.A. that night!!
This tow truck was owned by one of the panel shops in Canberra. So they were really trying to do the dodgy!

it shouldn't matter if a cars modified
or not - they should take there time
loading on vehicles carefully
if we wanted to damage our cars we'd
do it ourselves

He also suggested that if i take it home i would damage it further before getting it fixed?
I blew up at him and said why the fuck would i do that? the best chance of having it fixed properly is to have as little damage as possible, and i want it fixed!

EXACTLY what hapenned to me. Shannons must be good at chasing people The party at fault tried to tell me it was my fault (I wasn't even in the car!), so I just took photos and told them I was happy to take this up with whoever I needed to.
how in the world could it be anyone elses but the party who acted negligently's fault ay Squid, lol, so crazy

And my choice of repairer! This is a big plus for me, all work on my car is done by the one workshop (Neal Bates Auto, Plug number 2 for today), or the shop they refer me to when they can't do it!

I refuse to allow a tow truck to tow my car unless its a flatbed towtruck. I request on the phone that I want a flatbed truck and if one of the other types turn up I tell them to go away. Its just not worth the hassle of having to fix the car once its damaged. Plus in my case, its not good for it cause its auto.
Most towtruck guys I've dealt with (being a 7M owner I've dealt with a few) are not too bad. But nothing has ever happened that would make their arsehole side need to reveal itself though.

I normally wouldn't but it was the xmas public holiday, there wasn't an abundence of choice.
The driver who dropped it was alright, he made a mistake that happens, it was all the liability dodging that pissed me off. And he offered me $50 if i didn't tell his boss...
His boss came out to take some photos, said he was stewing and thought he was going to get fired, he laughed and said to let him stew for a bit, but his job isn't in trouble.

no one wants to lose their job over a
mistake, but you would think he would
have looked at the situation before
loading the car
still, as long as it is fixed

oh man, I feel for you.
on the subject of shannons, I also think they're the greatest insurer ever. Have had nothing but great service and *cheap* insurance quotes from them. plus the perks of keeping the wreck if it's a write off and your choice of repairer (both of which are *hugely* important to people like us)

Shannons have done everything right about me - and are starting to gain interest in my projects again - had nothing but good news with my ta22 - and now they have come to the party with my gt4 - letting me have exactly what i want out of the policy regarding my cars value , and modifications ..
its a pity more insurers arent like them !
Aslo got some very good news about a possible second car purchase i may be doing in the future - a quote that totally wasnt expected but extremely attractive
