Insane chase in bankstown area last night

I awoke to the sounds of sirens about 2am, the cops were seriously flooring it but its the other sound that made me get up out of bed. A big block V8.. This thing sounded crazy and it seems it was toying with the cops trying anything to get away.
It sounded like the badass charger in the fast and the furious... heh.
By this time it seems like about 4 cars were after it, and it was coming back towards my house, where it stopped (in a nearby street) but I could still hear the damn thing. Sounds like it was waiting for the cops to go by then it took off in the opposite direction. You could hear it from a km away.
Cops were joining the chase as I saw another few go past.. then a bit later 2 fire trucks came by probably anticipating someone hitting a pole or torching this car (im guessing it was stolen).
I wish TV news would cover such things live from helicopters.. would make some interesting late night viewing.
