Hi
For anyone who is interested I can source the odd 1986/7 supercharged AW11 MR2 from Japan for around $6,500-$7000 landed in Oz.
Engineering costs and on-roads are extra.
If interested mail marc@sricar.com

The cars have to be 15yrs or older in order to be eligible to be imported. If you can wait 3 months you can get a 1988.

I know its not a toyota but could you also source a 2nd gen CRX? I think they become OK to import early next year.

Yes we can import the second generation CRX's (1988) from next year. However, if you are after the VTEC BA16 motor (which I suspect will be the case), these cars are proving very hard to find. You will either have to be very lucky or patient in order for us to track a suitable car in Japan for you.

Thanks. I don't think the b16a started until 1990/91 which may be why they are proving so elusive.
What kind of price would you expect a (b16less) crx to go for? about the same as a gze aw11?

I suspect it would be around the same price as the 4AGZE MR2. All depends on the condition of the car.

Engineering costs depend on which state you are in. In Victoria they are around $750 (which includes the engineering certificate and the mods....seatbelts, mirror, fuel filler neck restrictor etc.)

Transporting to Sydney is no problem, either from Melb or from Japan directly.
As for whats required, in Vic for an engineering certificate you will need:
Seatbelts from Australian delivered MR2
Door intrusions bars (need to be welded in)
Driver's side mirror changed to flat glass
Fuel filler neck restrictor fitted & "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" sticker on fuel filler door
Tyre & emission placards from Australian delivered car Sunvisors from Australian delivered MR2 (or from another Aust. Delivered car which fits the MR2.
Tyres need to have speed (>H) and load rating (>475kg) on the side wall
