I just went to check the water in my car, having just did a head gasket repair (details in the previous thread) but upon opening the radiator cap i noticed a fine oily layer in the water (not running coolant as yet) and a foamy white substance covering the cap itself. There is no evidence of water contamination in the oil. (either via dipstick or under the filler cap). I am hoping this is just excess WD40 that i used to coat the block and help reinstall hoses, eg: it seeped down into the water jackets when the head was off. I flushed the block before reconnecting the radiator, and the radiator was professionally cleaned and pressure checked before reinsallation. The car has been driven on the road about 7km, and probably idled for a total of 30 minutes since I got it going.I started the car with the cap off and it didn't shoot coolant like it used to. Has anyone noticed similar findings after doing a head gasket?? Should i be worried, cos i am !! . [Report message to a moderator]
