18r-g aircon setup, will this work?? Wed, 19 January 2005 09:38 Go to previous message
hi,
i have been fidling around tryin to organise a suitable setup to have the 18r-c compressor on the 18r-g. mounting the compressor wont be a problem, but having a suitable belt setup that will work is a bit of work.

the way i have it experimentally setup at the moment is,

pulley1: (the inner pulley) just running the alternator alone.

pulley2: (the outer/3rd pulley) runs over the outer pulley on the water pump, then around the compressor.

now to have the belt connected from the crankshaft pulley to the alternator, i had to machine off the "bigger" pulley on the water pump so that the outside of the belt wouldnt rub.

i then had to space the water pump out by using 2 washers behind the pulley on each bolt (will make proper spacer on lathe later).

my question is;
seeing as the outer pulley on the water pump is smaller than the inner one, will this make it spin too fast???

also, is there enough belt-to-pulley contact on the water pump?? (belt is loose in photo though)

also, will there be too much flex in the belt?? should i use a guide???

if it is any significance, im runnin a thermo fan.
here are the pics
