I have tried a search and none of the infomation i wanted came up so here i go.

i was wondering what would be the best pistons to put i a methanol motor eg, flat tops, raised dome etc.

if there is anyother further infomation you need give a better answer just post a question on motor spec etc and i will reply asap.

Cheers everyone.

Basically you want the smallest surface area in the combustion chamber possible. This means if you have a small enough chamber in the head a flat top piston would be best.

I don't see you getting enough compression to make the most of a methanol only engine without some kind of dome though.

not that im an expert on methanol motors but
surely it the head has some influence on what
type of pistons you should choose?

well im not sure what motor im using yet im still tossing up between a motorcycle motor and a suzuki swift motor. But i understand what you me an about the head but ive heard people argue the fact that flat tops are better and also that domes are better so im just after some infomation on the topic.

Cheers

pretty broad, non specific question aint it Rolling Eyes

depends on head, port, compression, squish, valves and plug position... plus more if you want to get meaty...

you dont know wheat motor you want to put it into yet, so how on earth can you possibly consider what piston dome to design for?

LOL... i have this car with this thing and i want this other thing and it's blue and and....

methanol = higher compression, ie 13:1 (from vague memory)

flat top, dome, dish... all depends...
turning a petrol motor into a methanol motor is straightforward, but you need to make sure you know what you are doing and WHY you are doing it.... and remember to double the fuel flow rate Wink

i know my question was a bit vague but i was just curious in wot people think. wot do you do to convert a motor to methanol anyway as i want someone to do it for me but id like to have some idea about wot they will have to do

Cheers
