ra23 temp gauge into oil temp??

Ok here's the deal: I really like the idea of using the factory gauges. The performance guy tried to sell me a monster tacho (even tho i had a factory tacho) cause it would be easier to hook up -> i told him to get lost. Anyhow now I have all my factory gauges working BUT I got an aftermarket water temp gauge because I wanted to keep a close look on the water temp.
Now I have the factory water temp gauge doing nothing.
my question is.. Because it just says 'temp' on it how hard would it be to make it into a oil temp gauge. What's the heat range of oil?? Could I use a water temp sensor for a 18rc and tap it in my oil??
I know that it still wouldn't mean much and i'd have no idea of the oil's degrees but at least the temp gauge would be doing something.
(Btw I'm talking about the ra23 here)
