Who wants to come drag racing? (Dubbo NSW) Thu, 10 February 2005 07:41
hey all,

just thought I'd post this up for everyone in case some people were interested in coming out to do a bit of drag racing. The local car club here has an old airstrip turned into a 1/8th mile drag strip located at Bodangra about 10kms west of Wellington in Western NSW (the same location as the Toyota Nats racing last year). We have a Track Championship that runs out here every year and is sponsored by Dragster Australia.

The championship is held over 4 meets thru-out the year, there is no commitment for the year, come to one round or come to them all. Always a great fun weekend out for everyone, a very laid back drag racing environment.

The First round is to be held on March 12th and 13th between 9am and 4pm on both days. Saturday is just qualifying and Sunday morning is more qualifying (mainly for those not present on Saturday) and Sunday arvo is when the real racing is held.

It's run in an elimination style but once your eliminated you can continue to "grudge race" against anyone else who has been eliminated. Also the meet is run on a dial-in handicap system so that anyone and everyone has a chance of winning, for instance I eliminated a 308 holden 1-tonner in my 180sx but was then eliminated by a corolla

this is the first year that we may have a "sports compact class" running, a good friend of mine has initiated negotiations with various companies and the officials at Bodangra to try and get a class like this running this year. they have said if I can get enough interest (15+ entrants) then they will be more than happy to help me in setting the class up for good. So obviously the more cars we get out there into this division the better the chances are of me being able to pursaude the officals to allow this type of racing to be run out here in the west.

(FYI "sports compact" in this instance denotes car with engines of 4-cylinders, 6-cylinders and rotaries with a engine capacity of 3litres or less)

There is camping track-side but facilities are very limited, I can give you numbers for places to stay if needed.

If anyone has any questions or is interested email me at ETE51N@gmail.com or post up here.

hope to see ya there
