i thought the 10% marginal error was on our speedos, the cameras are meant to be 99.9% accurate...

hahahahahahaha spped cameras accurate not a chance in the world. dont get me wrong they are quite accurate but there are too many variables on the road to make them go off and therefore these have to be taken into account

I going to disagree and say yay to this idea. It seems like nothing pleases people, first people knock speed cameras for being revenue raising. At least it shows the goverment is listening and trying.

there are some good changes ahead but i dont think this is one of them, the speed cameras will get you as little as 3ks over the limit and there is no 10% margin,if there was the margin I believe this would be good and also if per year of having no offences you gain 2 extra points, anyways basically there is no tolerance to speeding and we all must live with that...or you could just go postal on the whole system and start blowing up all RTA related property

whats the point of having 12 points if you loose so many all at once. Soon there will be more people without driving liscenses than with. I know alot of decent drivers (who drive alot slower than me) who have lost half thier points if not more from fixed speed (revenue) cameras where they go over the limit by like 5km/h and although i dont like to admit it things should really be the other way arround.
People will allways speed but what is worse doing 65 in a 60 zone or watching your speedo instead of the road.
The government needs to be proactive and do something about the shitty quality of our roads and the shitty quality of our drivers only then will we see a reduction in the road death toll.
Just my 2 cents.

NSW has some of the shittiest roads, EVER.
i was living in the mountains of Colorado a year ago, in a redneck country town - and i have to say their road quality was about 10 times what our is, excluding the "externally contracted roads" (eg. M2 etc). And they maintain this through 5 months of snow per year!!
I just have no faith in our governments when it comes to road related spending/issues/legislation. Speeding is the cause of less than 5% of all road accidents.....

But if you blame speeding for 30% of all accidents you can make lots of money with speed cameras

bah using a mobile in a car should be an instant 1month suspension.. I'd be happy with that. been almost killed a few times by people on phones... I think every motor cyclist would support me on this one.

i'll agree on the road condition. it's the one thing that is holding me back from changing the ride height of my car.. there are speedbumps around my area that i know have destroyed sumps of stock cars and also so many potholes that i only bother to remember the really bad ones that will smash my wheels.
this government is useless when it comes to roads. then again what would you expect when carr doesn't even have a drivers lisence from what i've heard

Yep, Aussie roads suck teh big one.
I didn't realise how much until I drove around Europe.
Nice surface, cambered corners, etc, made even driving a shitty turbo diesel pug 206 a pleasure.
I now see the truth in what my mates dad used to say, there's more foundation in an english driveway than in an Aussie road.
Oh, and I'm all up for dropping the price of speeding fines. I know of a lot of families that a $150 fine would hurt severly at the expense of a slight lapse of concentration.
I have no probs with the points increase either, I really want half the twats off the road.

you must be driving in la la land fella
europe roads are so shitty, that, on a 2 lane road, the pot holes are so big you have to overtake the buggers. i was driving a turbo deisel audi 80 sedan...
hideous roads mate... aussie roads are well decent innit..
on the subject again... it used to be, you only lost points if you were a certain amount over... if it was reasonable, like 3-4 k's over, they sent you a $50 fine and no demerit points..
seening as though us p platers only have 5-6 demerit points, its "all against us" how are we supposed to get experience if we get our licences suspended?
one of my mates has 1 point left, its bullshit... and thats just from going 5-6 km/h over.. twice...

if la la land was italy, spain & france (6,000K's worth) then I must have been in it.
The roads were so smooth, I think my missus was only awake for 5% of the time on the road. Which also meant my average speed was about 150Km/h. It's such a nice feeling rocketing along a country road seeing a corner that would be usually posted in Australia at 75km/h, hitting it at 130 in the shitty pug and having the beautiful camber of the road escort you through the corner as though it never existed.
Aussie roads can bite my sack

I'll back that, your roads were dodgy. Not all of ours are perfect, but 99% of them shit on yours. Our freeway is so much smoother than your tollways its a joke you have to pay for them.

I heard that we now have the lowest number of deaths in NSW PER CAPITA ever recorded.
Although we are probably having a higher rate of P plater deaths. That is only because your on your P's for 300% longer.
I think that having higher demerit points and lower fines is a good idea
What would you rather loose, Demerit points or money? Most people are more worried about the points than the fine so increasing the number of demerit points should prevent us from doing stupid stuff a bit more.
But losing 3 points for 0-15kmph over is bullshit. A 10 kay leeway should be given first otherwise the cops will start pulling people for going 2 kays over the limit and BAM 3 points Gooooone!!!

I'm hoping to be attending the summit that Mr Costa has said will be held.
have a look at www.ozdrive.org for the Australian Driver's Group, I have been trying to put forward suggestions to the Gumbyment as a group for a while now.
