find 22RE motor so you upgrade to EFI?

only a slight increase in performance, but it would bolt up without issues.

The question is how far do you wanna go?

As chuckster suggests most simple upgrade is 22RE or you could go to the other extreme and fit a 1JZGTE like me.

My engine came out of a Soarer.

V6 commo engine is one of the last things id put in. Youd be much better off fitting a 7MGE or even better 2JZGE. Cambelt has a 7MGE in his Bundera so you might wanna PM him for details. You can get a 2JZGE for around $1000, bellhousing for around $400 from dellow and do the engine mounts yourself.

The other option is to fit either a 1GGTE or 1GGZE these motors will bolt straight up to your gearbox, im not sure about the engine mounts but go to the outerlimits4x4 forums and search there is a guy who has done this conversion on there.

I doubt it.
Its not that wide. People make it out to be a mother of a motor size wise.
I'd say your intake plenum and turbos would be just as wide.

Mookie: wot u want to buy is a BJ70 or 73 landcruiser. the differences between these and bunderras is bunerra are coils but they have weak hilux diffs which will break front axles. the landcrusier has leafs and land cruiser axles

Coils or leaves i don't care either way.
I know that if i get a leaf sprung 4X4 i could maybe lift the truck by mounting the springs on top of the axle if they're not already there.

yeh spring over axle conversion (SOA) is a cheap and relatively easy way to get a lot of lift out of stock springs

Seems to be a very generalised comment.

80 series cruisers have 8" hilux diffs up front, do they break alot?

with a bigger motor and lockers i am sure they would break alot. if u really want tuffness then get patrol diffs. but they are from the other family and that is a whole other thing

Why go patrol when you could use land cruiser axles
I'm pretty sure most older patrol models (MQ etc) had shocking ride quality.
And shocking steering
I don't know how much of this would come with the axles but the landcruiser faired better in all the test i had read.

yeh u would use the axles but u don't hav to use the springs. and yes teh MQ's had very bad ride quality. Everyone will agree that patrol axles (GQ or GU) will be alot stronger than landcrusier axles. anyway u can do wot u want wit ur car, these are just suggestions
