removing locknuts without a key

trying to get my wheels off to change brake pads and i cant get my lock nuts off because i have misplaced the key  they are external ones . i got 2 off with a socket but i rounded the ends on the socket (was old and cant get another one) was told to use a tapered socket but cant find one big enuf. i need help. pm me if you dont want everone to know how to get them off.
