As the title says, are the R154 & W58 bellhousing flanges even similar in any way?
I've been slowly building up a 3SGTE RWD setup for a little while, but now I'm at what I would describe as a pivotal point in the development of various bits, and that has got me thinking about abandoning my 1S bellhousing and starting a custom steel bellhousing. Because of that, I'm also thinking about switching my project around a bit to utilize an R154 transmission instead of a W58 transmission.
A few questions...
is the R154 THAT much stronger than a W58?
does the W58 shift THAT much better than a R154?
have people with 3SGTE/W58/RWD conversions had problems with transmission failures?
have people with R154 transmissions been that impressed with them?
The low-down is this - my motor should hopefully make well over 450BHP, so all of a sudden the W58 transmission is starting to perhaps become a bit of a liability - it would be much cheaper to just make the switch right now, sell the 1S bellhousing and two W58 boxes I have and start making a custom bellhousing for an R154 transmission.
Advice, criticism, reality-checks, slander, cussing, and general comments about this idea are wanted...
