Apexi AVC-R boost controller - who's got one / knows someone with one? got a better suggestion?

I'm looking at getting one, widt teh absurd number of features and settings - just to give me something to fine-tune for years to come. I need to know if they're any good, what they're like to setup and adjust etc. . .
How does scramble mode work? Can you hold a button down to get the extra boost for as long as you want, or does it only cut in for a pre-set amount of time?
